Top Healthcare Companies to Work For in 2026, According to AI

The top healthcare companies to work for in the United States, according to AI, are Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Kaiser Permanente. These are the employers ChatGPT, Google's AI and Perplexity name most often when job seekers ask which health care organizations are the best places to work. Johnson & Johnson, UnitedHealth Group, Humana, Pfizer, CVS Health, HCA Healthcare and Roche complete the top 10.
This list is different from the award lists you may have seen. It does not rank employers on a survey of their own staff. It ranks them on how often AI recommends them to candidates, because that is now where many careers in health care start. In a PerceptionX survey of 306 active job seekers across seven countries, 89% of AI-using job seekers used ChatGPT, and 72% used AI before deciding whether to apply.

How this list was made
The ranking comes from the PerceptionX Employer Visibility Index, which tracks how AI assistants answer the questions candidates ask about employers. For this list we used the Healthcare category for the United States.
- The questions: candidate-style prompts asking which health care companies are the best to work for, run on ChatGPT, Google's AI and Perplexity.
- The Visibility score: the share of those AI answers that named the company, averaged across the three models, on a scale of 0 to 100. A score of 64.1 means the company was named in 64% of answers on average.
- The scope: 138 companies across hospitals and health systems, health plans, pharmacy, pharmaceuticals and medical technology. Companies with equal scores share a position.
- The date: data refreshed in October 2026. AI answers change, so treat this as a snapshot, and check the profiles for the latest score.
The Visibility score measures how often AI recommends an employer, not pay, benefits or working conditions. A high score means candidates hear the name; it is still worth checking reviews and speaking to employees about the role you want.

What the list tells us about healthcare employers in AI answers
Three academic health systems lead by a wide margin
Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Kaiser Permanente all score close to 60 or above. The next employer, Johnson & Johnson, scores 43.6. When candidates ask a general question about health care careers, AI answers lead with a small group of nationally known health systems with strong reputations around the world for quality care, research and education, and healthcare providers involved in training the next generation of clinicians.
Insurers and life sciences companies are part of the same conversation
Half of the top 10 are not care providers. Health plans such as UnitedHealth Group and Humana, and life sciences companies such as Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Roche, appear in the same answers as hospitals. For candidates outside clinical roles, such as data, finance, operations and software development, this is where much of the health care industry's hiring happens.
Many well-regarded employers are missing
Plenty of hospitals and health systems that win workplace awards, including regional systems and children's hospitals, do not appear in the top 10. That is not a judgment on their work environment. It means AI is not naming them when candidates ask the broad question, which is a visibility problem rather than a culture problem.
Beyond the top 10: other healthcare employers AI names often
Just outside the top 10, AI answers also regularly name Elevance Health, Stryker, Abbott and Johns Hopkins Medicine. They cover the same mix as the top of the list: a health plan, two medical technology companies and an academic health system. For candidates, these are worth a place on a shortlist too, especially for roles in medical devices, research and corporate functions.
The full ranking of 138 companies, with a profile for each, is in the Employer Visibility Index.
How the AI view compares with award lists and survey data
Most best companies lists are built from survey data: employees at participating healthcare organizations answer questions about trust, pride, employee engagement and their work environment, and the organizations with the best results win. Those lists are useful, but they only include employers that take part, and they measure what employees think rather than what candidates hear.
AI answers work the other way round. They draw on everything published about an employer, including reviews, news, rankings and employee feedback on public sites, and turn it into one recommendation. That is why large, well-known healthcare providers dominate the AI view, while smaller organizations with excellent cultures can be missing from it. Both views matter, and the best employers in the healthcare industry tend to do well in both.
What candidates look for in a healthcare employer
Whatever the list says, the right employer depends on the role. These are the factors candidates in health care ask about most.
- Pay and benefits: competitive pay and performance incentives, health and dental insurance coverage, retirement plans, life and disability insurance, paid time off and parental leave. Many large employers also offer mental health services and well being programs for staff.
- Work life balance: flexible scheduling, realistic staffing and shift patterns, and remote work options for non-clinical roles.
- Professional development: tuition reimbursement or tuition assistance, continuing education offerings, employee development programs and clear paths for career advancement, professional growth and personal growth.
- Working conditions: safe staffing, clear expectations, supportive management and a corporate culture where employees feel valued, open communication is normal and colleagues work as one team.
- Contract and hours: whether roles are for full time employees, part-time or per diem staff, and how that affects benefits eligibility.
- Purpose: the chance to provide care, support patients, deliver compassionate care and exceptional care, and work for an organization with a strong commitment to its community and a strong sense of mission.
In our candidate research, the topics people asked AI about most when researching employers were compensation (53%), career opportunities (52%) and the interview experience (51%). Health care candidates are no different: pay, growth and how the hiring process works decide who applies.
How to choose the right healthcare company for you
- Start with the role, not the brand. Registered nurses, physicians, pharmacists and corporate staff have different best employers. Ask AI about your specific role and city, not health care in general.
- Compare several sources. Use AI to build a shortlist, then check employee reviews, workplace surveys and the employer's own careers site.
- Check the details AI leaves out. Staffing levels, shift patterns, tuition assistance rules and how quickly new hires are supported on the floor rarely appear in AI answers. Ask about them in the interview.
- Talk to employees. Current employees can tell you what daily work is really like on a specific unit or team, and about other aspects of the job that never make it into a list.
What healthcare employers can learn from the ranking
For health systems, insurers and life sciences companies, this list shows the first impression candidates now get. A few lessons stand out.
- AI visibility is concentrated. A small number of employers take most of the mentions. If you are not in that group, many candidates asking broad questions will never hear your name.
- Reputation forms in third-party sources. AI answers draw on review sites, rankings, news and professional networks, not just careers pages. Our guide to improving your employer brand in ChatGPT explains which sources matter.
- Visibility differs by role and market. An employer can be named often for nursing and rarely for technology roles, or strongly in one state and not another. Measure the questions your candidates actually ask.
PerceptionX is the only employer reputation platform built for how candidates now research employers. It shows what ChatGPT, Google and other AI assistants tell job seekers about working for a company: whether they recommend it, what they say about it and which websites those answers come from, in every market and for every type of role. The Visibility score on this list shows one part of that: how often AI names a company when candidates ask where to work. Our scores are independent: they come from what AI actually says, not from what employers tell us.
How this list is made: scores come from the answers AI assistants give candidates, measured the same way for every company.
